Meet Boucheron

JEWELLER PROFILES JEAN –CHRISTOPHE BEDOS, CEO, BOUCHERON Boucheron, which last year celebrated its 150th anniversary, is one of the world’s greatest master jewellers. Having been under the direction of four generations of the Boucheron family, the company was acquired by Gucci Group, within PPR, in 2000. Jean-Christophe Bedos, CEO of Boucheron, joined the brand in 2004. PAGE ONE “Boucheron today remains true to the style and direction of its founder, Frederic Boucheron. The Boucheron style is composed of three major elements: its romantic 19th century roots in art movements particularly symbolism; a very strong femininity and its oriental influence. All three are especially relevant today, making Boucheron the most modern of jewellers. PAGE TWO “We always look for references to find design direction, and I see a lot of 19th century influences emerging today, especially Art Nouveau. My obsession is not to create for the sake of creating but to identify what is relevant in the brand and to give it power and strength, to protect our identity and express ourselves. Gold is the essence of our design. Gold can be easily transformed and shaped, it’s like the lead of the designer’s pencil, a three dimensional pencil. At Boucheron we like to play with gold, especially with its colours. It is part of our heritage, Frederic Boucheron introduced green gold in the late 19th century. PAGE THREE “Our chocolate gold is a Boucheron signature, reflecting the brand’s sensuality and the relationship of jewels to gourmandises, as expressed in our new Macaron collection. Our pink gold is redder than most, with a high level of intensity. We also explore textures, as part of Boucheron’s eclectic nature, the diamond shape, the gaudrons, grosgrain, all assembled in the four layers of colour and texture of our best-selling, iconic Les Quatre ring, worn by men and women. Gold today is a refuge, emotionally as well as economically. Wearing gold, touching gold makes you feel safer, it goes beyond reason. Gold today is rediscovering all its values, it is a talisman. I believe in the power of gold.” Jean-Christophe Bedos - Boucheron Page 1 Left hand picture: Portrait of Jean-Christophe Bedos.
